Job Description:  Engineering Intern

 

  • Job Description Summary
    • This position will allow a student to jump directly into Engineering and cross functional projects. This person responsible for the completion of projects through the duration of this internship. Projects may be related, but are not limited to the following:
  • 5S Implementation
  • Safety, Quality, or Efficiency improvements
  • Workflow analysis
  • Develop, document, and implement process changes to meet ISO 9001 standards
  • Train staff for new processes and develop applicable instructions
  • Job Routing
  • Cost analysis

 

2.0         Reporting Relationships

2.1         The Engineering Intern reports directly to Senior Management.

 

3.0         Job Requirements:

3.1         Education

3.1.1    Required: Within 2 years of completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering

3.1.2    Preferred: Within 2 years of completion of a B.S. in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering. Classwork with exposure to CNC machining, welding, workflow analysis, lean manufacturing

3.2         Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

3.2.1    Required: Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

3.2.2    Preferred: Experience with CNC machining, Welding, and/or ERP systems.

3.2.3    Working knowledge of general manufacturing processes.

3.2.4    Must possess ability to effectively communicate through verbal and written means.

3.2.5    Requires investigative and analytical skills, ability to organize and prioritize activities as it relates to the manufacturing process.

3.2.6    Requires the ability to utilize a computer and work with ERP software.

 

 

3.3         Physical Requirements

3.3.1    Body Positions: Physical requirements include sitting (20%), standing (30%), squatting/bending (20%), reaching (10%) and walking (20%).

3.3.2    Body Movements: Must be able to walk without assistance to safely move throughout the work environment.  Hand and finger dexterity must be sufficient to operate computer keyboards.

3.3.3    Body Senses: Must possess sense of sight (with no color blindness) to interpret drawings and diagrams on a computer screen.  Eyesight must be sufficient for moving from a computer screen to a drawing and reading text as necessary.  Must be able to hear for safety in the machine shop.

 

3.4         Mental Requirements

3.4.1    Mathematical: Must possess skills sufficient to perform calculations and process numbers.

3.4.2    Language: Must be able to read, write and speak English sufficiently to interpret diagrams, computer programs and communicate directly with staff and management

3.4.3    Mechanical:  Must possess a general knowledge of manufacturing and production principles.

3.4.4     Spatial Awareness: Requires the ability to read and have a general understanding of blueprints, diagrams and other documents used in the manufacture of products at Plas-Tech Tooling, Inc.

 

4.0         Working Conditions

4.1         The work will be performed primarily indoors in a smoke-free shop environment.  The employee will be required to move between the office and production area throughout the day.  They will be exposed to potential hazards in the form of dust/other particles in the air, noise, moving equipment, and machines with moving parts.

4.2         The normal work day will consist of nine (9) hours performed between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM; Monday through Thursday and four (4) hours on Friday.  You will be expected to have 40 hours of work completed by twelve (12) pm (noon) on Friday unless approved in advance by your supervisor or Senior Management.  There will be two (2) paid breaks of 10 minutes and one (1) unpaid lunch break up to sixty (60) minutes.

 

 

5.0         Duties and Tasks

5.1         Implementation of 5S

5.2         Participate and coordinate continuous improvement projects

5.3         Set up and maintain part routings and bill of materials

5.4         Time Studies

5.5         Develop and implement workflows

5.6         Support other departments with ERP system improvements

5.7         Implementation of safety improvements

5.8         Verify parts meet quality specifications

5.9         Create work instructions

5.10      Other duties as assigned.
